The sport of Strongwoman is currently experiencing unprecedented growth, thanks to the remarkable talent and skill displayed by numerous awe-inspiring women. Among these exceptional athletes, it is difficult to single out one as the greatest, but Inez Carrasquillo is certainly a strong contender for that title. Competing under the flag of Costa Rica, Inez consistently ranks at or near the top of leaderboards in all events, making her one of the most well-rounded athletes in the sport.
Recently, Inez Carrasquillo has revealed a new personal record in an event that is not typically her strongest — the deadlift. During a training session, she successfully lifted 550 pounds (249.5 kilograms), surpassing her previous record. This achievement is particularly significant as her previous record was set three years ago and was 5 pounds (2.3 kilograms) lighter. Inez Carrasquillo accomplished this impressive deadlift using a conventional stance, with only a lifting belt and lifting straps for support.
While her deadlift prowess is remarkable, Inez Carrasquillo’s greatest strength lies in her pressing power. This was evident when she competed in and emerged as the champion of the 2023 Rainier Classic. One of the events at the competition was the Max Log Lift, where she set a new world record of 145.8 kilograms (321.4 pounds). This lift shattered the previous record by over 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms), showcasing Inez’s exceptional strength and dominance in the sport.
Although Inez Carrasquillo has just achieved a new personal record in the deadlift, she already possessed impressive strength from her powerlifting days. Despite participating in only three sanctioned powerlifting competitions, she emerged victorious in all of them. However, her move to Strongwoman was inspired by the achievements of Tom Stoltman, a two-time World’s Strongest Man who is also autistic. Witnessing Tom’s success motivated Inez to strive for the same level of accomplishment in the sport.
Inez Carrasquillo has already achieved remarkable feats in Strongwoman competitions. She secured victories in the 2022 Arnold Amateur Strongwoman World Championships, the 2022 Beerstone, and the 2022 and 2023 Rainier Classics, among others. Additionally, she achieved a commendable third-place finish at the 2022 World’s Strongest Woman competition.
Looking ahead, Inez Carrasquillo’s competition schedule for the remainder of the year is yet to be confirmed. However, she has already been selected as a member of Team USA for the 2023 World’s Strongest Nation competition. Furthermore, she is set to participate in the 2023 World’s Strongest Woman competition, aiming to improve upon her previous placement.
Inez Carrasquillo’s achievements and dedication to the sport of Strongwoman have undoubtedly made her a force to be reckoned with. As she continues to push her limits and redefine what is possible, her impact on the sport will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy.
