Eduard Folayang, a former ONE lightweight world champion, is set to embark on a new chapter of his ONE Championship career as he prepares to face a familiar opponent at ONE Fight Night 14. The Filipino legend will go head-to-head with Amir Khan on September 29th at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, marking his record-breaking 25th appearance inside the Circle. This exciting development was first reported by ABS-CBN News.
In an interview with the publication, Folayang expressed his enthusiasm for his return to the ring and his hopes for a successful match against the Singaporean star, which could potentially propel him towards another shot at the world title. Folayang stated, “I can’t even begin to describe the level of excitement that’s coursing through me as I look forward to the rematch against Amir Khan on September 30th (Singapore time). This fight represents so much more than just a battle in the Circle; it’s a shot at redemption, a golden opportunity to rewrite my story, and a chance to open a new, exhilarating chapter in my career.”
He further added, “The road to this moment has been grueling, but it’s in this adversity that I’ve found the strength to push forward. I’m ready to showcase the culmination of my hard work, to seize this chance to prove that setbacks are just setups for comebacks.”
Interestingly, this will be the first time in his ONE Championship journey that Folayang will not be representing Team Lakay. Earlier this year, he and other members of the renowned Philippine gym decided to part ways. Folayang has since established Lions Nation MMA, and his upcoming rematch against Khan will mark the debut of his new team in ONE Championship.
The initial encounter between Khan and Folayang took place at ONE: Conquest of Champions in November 2018, held in Manila. On that occasion, Folayang delivered a striking clinic, securing a unanimous decision victory over Khan and claiming the ONE lightweight world title for the second time in his illustrious career.
It is worth noting that ONE Fight Night 14 will be available live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America, providing an opportunity for fans to witness this highly anticipated rematch.
